2013年發表的第二張專輯《Sunbather》石破天驚，使得舊金山樂團Deafheaven成為blackgaze（black metal + shoegaze）樂風裡最具指標性的名字之一。獲得葛萊美獎提名後的Deafheaven夥同製作人Justin Meldal-Johnsen (M83、Wolf Alice)完成了第五張全新專輯，並交由身攬九座葛萊美獎的Darrell Thorp (Foo Fighters、Radiohead、Beck)操刀混音，率先釋出的單曲〈Great Mass of Color〉延續著2018年前作《Ordinary Corrupt Human Love》所展現的轉變，讓該團的dark-pop風範更為懾人、更具情緒渲染張力。
