Nirvana的第三張專輯《In Utero》依舊帶來幾近原始的咆哮與渲洩，但《In Utero 》所憑藉不再完全是《Nevermind那種直接衝擊的Grunge爆發力，而是在前Big Black團長Steve Albini的製作下引進大量以破壞為目的的噪音聲響，使得專輯中的作品在擁有流暢討喜的旋律與更具層次感的樂曲結構(得助於由R.E.M.製作人Scott Litt擔綱混音)的同時，亦存在著極度不悅耳的衝突扭曲聲音。
