◎ 日本ele-king雜誌2020年度最佳專輯第13名

記得當時電影《黑豹》中的「非洲未來主義」概念曾引起不少討論，而The Beneficiaries這張專輯《The Crystal City Is Alive》，則是在techno大師Jeff Mills主導下，從電子音樂角度出發去體現「非洲未來主義」。

不過，這並不是一張理所當然的techno專輯。

The Beneficiaries這個組合以Jeff Mills加上另一位底特律techno名將Eddie  Fowlkes作為音樂核心，建構了一個浩瀚無垠、充滿科幻神秘ambient氛圍的電聲空間，交織著層次縝密繁複的大量非洲打擊樂鋪陳，，也蘊含某些prog-rock、afro-jazz意象。

而概念的部分，則交由The Beneficiaries另一位成員、曾與Nas、Talib Kweli等饒舌名將合作的女詩人Jessica Care Moore，以底特律這座城市的歷史作為文本，透過她的招牌spoken-word演繹貫穿整張專輯進行闡述。
