雖然The Cure成軍於70年代末（1976），但是不可否認地，80年代才是該團的全盛時期。當時的The Cure是低調post-punk樂派的首席代表(也有人將他們列入gothic-rock的範疇)。

《Wish》是The Cure步入90年代後所發表的第一張專輯，《NME》音樂週報在當時曾形容這是他們有史以來最佳的作品，整體上與過去最大的不同是褪去了不少低調晦暗的色彩，同時迎向光明快樂，特別是由於〈Friday I'm In Love〉這首輕快吉他流行曲的出現，而令更多流行樂迷開始接觸The Cure的音樂。但這並不表示The Cure會就此棄守崗位，〈Open〉、〈Apart〉、〈Trust〉、〈To Wish Impossible Things〉這些歌曲依舊帶領聽者回到那個灰暗絕望的熟悉世界中。
