這張野心double album之作，從The Notorious B.I.G.的饒舌敘事能力與歌詞內容，到DJ Premier、RZA等操刀的音樂製作層面，都呈現了全面進化，依舊被視為 90年代最具影響力的東岸饒舌專輯之一，同時締造了亮眼的商業成績——奪下Billboard專輯榜冠軍並在美國締造超過500 萬張的銷售量，〈Hypnotize〉、〈Mo Money Mo Problems〉也成為Billboard冠軍單曲。

而這張專輯發行之前不到兩週，他於同年3月9日在洛杉磯遭槍殺去世，也因此帶有揮之不去的遺作色彩。
