90年代影響我極大的已故DJ/製作人Andrew Weatherall（合作過Primal Scream、My Bloody Valentine、New Order、Björk、The Orb...等經典）到底有多重要，身邊很多愛樂好友相信都感同身受。

但對我來說，Andrew Weatherall的傳奇篇章裡，The Sabres of Paradise組成絕對是關鍵性的一頁。

由他與工程師 Jagz Kooner、Gary Burns（兩人亦合組90年代裡我超愛的電子組合The Aloof）於 1992 年在倫敦組成The Sabres of Paradise，活動時間雖然短暫，但卻留下了這張我心目中的90年代電子名盤。

在英國 rave 文化的黃金尾聲，他們一邊辦傳說級的Sabresonic倉庫派對，一邊在錄音室裡創作，一路把acid house影響推向之後較慢、較陰鬱、帶濃厚 dub 與工業氣味的面向，可說是把 rave派對能量轉譯成適合 home listening的早期代表之一，建構一種介於 techno、dub、ambient 與初代IDM 之間的獨特「陰鬱場景」。

《Sabresonic》是在1993年發表的首張專輯，同時也是這位大師走進更黑暗電子聲景的重要起點。明顯聽到Andrew Weatherall如何透過他招牌的dub低頻美學去重新體現當時倫敦post-acid house場景的全部殘響，讓人陷在一種微妙的迷霧感之中。偶爾甚至滑向 ambient 領域，更造就出代表性名曲〈Smokebelch II (Beatless Mix)〉，成為 90年代chill-out/ambient house 的經典標準之一，也曾被Mixmag雜誌軒為史上最佳電子單曲第33名。
