至今仍一直大受另類樂迷忠實擁戴、成軍已滿40年的的Yo La Tengo，在1997年發表了這張90年代裡的最後一張專輯《I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One》。

在那時候，當大家還將Yo La Tengo視為一隊師承The Velvet Underground、擅長將lo-fi/noise-rock與甜美流暢旋律結合的樂團時，他們卻在這張大碟裡開始嘗試探索post-rock/avant-rock領域讓人驚艷，是以Option雜誌喻為「像是將60's french-pop注入Jesus & Mary Chain與The Beach Boys，並為60年代的The Velvet Underground與90年代的Tortoise築起橋樑。」
